About Us

Spark! Children’s Museum is the new name of the Children’s Museum of Montana—the original children’s museum in the state. The rebrand is a natural fit, reflecting Great Falls’ identity as the Electric City while reinforcing a part of our mission to spark the joy of learning.

Our mission statement is to spark the joy of learning by fostering imagination and creativity through interactive, exploratory play.

Explore Creativity

As we work toward reopening, there is important work underway—particularly in rebuilding our exhibit collection so our little explorers can return. While many of our original exhibits were unable to transition to the new location, this challenge has become an opportunity. Our new exhibit master plan is intentionally designed to prioritize accessibility for all patrons, emphasize STEAM learning, support early childhood development, and respond to the educational needs of our community.

We are excited to share our vision for this next chapter and invite you to be part of bringing it to life.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

1999 -- With support  and funding from the City of Great Falls, the Children's Museum of Montana was able to move into it's first home a historic building owned by the city at 22 Railroad Square.

2017 -- After nearly two decades in it's original location and following discussions with the City, the board formally began exploring options for a new permanent home for the Children's Museum.

2024 -- After careful consideration and in light of significant maintenance needs, the Children’s Museum of Montana made the decision to cease operations at 22 Railroad Square and focus its efforts on securing a new permanent home.

2026 -- We are hopeful to reopen in late spring of this year, but we need your support. Many of our exhibits were unable to move to the new location due to age and deferred maintenance. If you would like information about sponsoring an exhibit, please contact us at hello@sparkmt.org

1997 -- A group led by the Junior League of Great Falls established the Children's Museum of Montana, initially delivering educational-focused pop-up play experiences throughout the city.

2000 -- The Children's Museum of Montana launched its annual capacity-building fundraiser, Chocolate Noir, to support and expand its services to the community.

2020 -- Like organizations everywhere, the Children’s Museum was significantly impacted by COVID-19 and was required to pivot quickly, implementing adjustments that allowed it to continue offering a fun, collaborative, and exploratory environment for families while meeting all government safety guidelines.

2025 -- A new location at 201 2nd Avenue South was secured as the  Children's Museum’s future home, and with this transition, the Children’s Museum of Montana was rebranded as Spark! Children’s Museum of Montana. The Board viewed the rebrand as a natural fit—reflecting Great Falls’ identity as the Electric City and reinforcing the Museum’s mission to Spark! the joy of learning
